Commission Meetings
The public is encouraged to join the Commission for our Monthly Meetings. Our monthly meetings are hosted every third Tuesday from 5 PM – 6:30 PM. During this meeting Commission members examine sentencing policy in the District and implement changes on sentencing policy in District-based research and data. In an effort to expand the Commission’s educational resources to the general public as well as criminal justice practitioners we have started to engage on our social media platforms. On our various social media accounts, we can stay up to date regarding upcoming meetings, sentencing trends, new publications, educational content, public safety resources, and the activity of our criminal justice partners. #FactFriday: The DC Sentencing Commission will be expanding its engagement efforts to better answer common sentencing guideline questions with a new series called #factfridays. Every Friday we will be sharing the answer to a common sentencing guideline question; both the question and answer will be posted to our Twitter and Facebook accounts. Questions can be submitted here.
Educational Videos
The Commission has extended its educational outreach to include employing educational videos. These will cover a wide array of topics such as the history of the Commission, the function of the D.C. Voluntary Sentencing Guidelines, and frequently asked questions. Click here to view.
Newsletter
To engage with District residents, the Commission disperses biannual newsletters. The agency’s newsletters provide a synopsis of the recent Commission Meeting, New Mitigating Departure Factor, sentencing-related data, and trends, as well as our Commission Member Highlight. It is the goal of the Sentencing Commission to increase awareness throughout the District of the functions of the Sentencing Guidelines, and the current work of the Commission, along with felony sentencing trends.
