“Social media” is a phrase that describes Internet-based technology communication tools. Just as email and static websites were new communication platforms in the previous decade, social media today refers to platforms such as blogs, video/photo posting sites, Internet forums and online customer support chat sites. Social Media tools help citizens interact with their government and foster a culture of greater transparency.

Purpose

This policy provides information regarding the District of Columbia Sentencing Commission’s (the Commission) use of social media, which should be broadly understood for purposes of this policy to include electronic newsletters, electronic brochures, online forums, social networking sites, and other sites and services that permit the Commission to share information with the public.
