Domestic Violence Arrest and Sentencing Information

This information is provided in response to a Commission data request. The request concerns the differences in sentencing trends between domestic violence (DV) and non-DV cases, sentencing trends for cases in which felony Strangulation charges were filed, and the arrest-to-sentencing lifecycle for adult felony DV arrests. This response focuses on arrests and sentences since 2022 because 2022 is the first full year for which the Commission has reliable information regarding whether the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) classified an arrest as a DV arrest.
