The DC Sentencing Commission is proud to release its first “Issue Paper” which examines Compliant in the Box sentences imposed under the Sentencing Guidelines. Issue Papers are intended to provide criminal justice partners and the general public with an overview of specific sentencing provisions under the District’s Sentencing Guidelines. Compliant in the Box sentences represent sentences that comply with both the Guidelines recommended sentence type and length for a specific offense and serves as a measure to identify how consistently the Guidelines are applied. Issue Papers will be released semi-annually with a different sentencing provision addressed in each release. The Commission is hopeful that by sharing information relating to specific sentencing provisions that readers will have a better understanding of sentencing practices under the Sentencing Guidelines.
